Restaurant Accessibility Installation with an ILS Platform Lift

New Restaurant Development | Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria

Project Overview

A1 Access Lifts was appointed to supply and install a new ILS Platform Lift as part of the construction of a flagship restaurant for one of the UK's leading fish and chip restaurant chains in Bowness-on-Windermere.

Working on behalf of the Principal Contractor, our team coordinated the installation during the build phase, delivering a platform lift that would provide safe and reliable access between levels while also supporting the day-to-day operation of the restaurant through dual passenger and goods use.

The completed installation forms an integral part of the restaurant's accessibility strategy, ensuring customers, staff and catering teams can move efficiently throughout the building.

The Challenge

As with many new-build hospitality projects, careful coordination between trades was essential to ensure the lift installation aligned with the overall construction programme.

The lift needed to provide inclusive access for customers while also being robust enough to accommodate the daily movement of catering trolleys, stock and supplies between floors. This dual-purpose requirement meant selecting a solution that combined reliability, durability and ease of operation without compromising the appearance of the finished restaurant.

Working within an active construction site also required close collaboration with the Principal Contractor to ensure the installation was delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.

Our Solution

Following a detailed technical review, A1 Access Lifts specified the ILS Platform Lift, selected for its dependable performance, flexible design and suitability for mixed passenger and goods applications.

Working alongside the Principal Contractor, our experienced engineers coordinated the installation with the wider construction programme, ensuring every stage of the project progressed smoothly.

Our scope of works included:

  • Supply and installation of the ILS Platform Lift
  • Coordination with the Principal Contractor and site trades
  • Electrical installation and commissioning
  • Testing and safety inspections
  • Client handover and operational guidance

The lift was configured to provide approximately 3 metres of travel with a 500kg rated capacity, creating a practical solution capable of supporting both customer accessibility and the operational needs of the restaurant.

Installation

The installation was carefully programmed to integrate seamlessly into the wider construction schedule, allowing other trades to continue working efficiently throughout the build.

Regular coordination meetings with the Principal Contractor ensured deliveries, installation activities and commissioning were completed on programme while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

Following installation, the lift underwent comprehensive testing and commissioning before being handed over ready for the restaurant's opening.

The Result

The completed ILS Platform Lift provides smooth, reliable travel between levels, improving accessibility for customers while also supporting the restaurant's daily operation through the safe transportation of catering trolleys, stock and supplies.

With approximately 3 metres of travel and a 500kg rated capacity, the lift delivers the versatility required within a busy hospitality environment, combining dependable performance with a clean, contemporary finish that complements the restaurant's interior.

The project demonstrates A1 Access Lifts' ability to successfully deliver accessibility solutions within complex commercial developments, working collaboratively with Principal Contractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
